Sea of Penguins
Sea of Penguins
For the first time, I stood face to face with tens of thousands of king penguins on Salisbury Plain. The scale, the sound, the movement — everything was overwhelming. I was moved, speechless. Instead of capturing a single individual, I wanted to feel the whole. This abstract shot was born from that emotion: a sea of penguins.

Sjoerd van de Knokke is a nature photographer and physician.
In remote landscapes, far from noise and haste, he creates images in which silence, space, and attention become tangible. His work emerges from patience, observation, and the stillness to truly look.
His fine art nature photography shows how powerful simplicity can be. A line in the ice, the rhythm of a landscape, an animal blending into the void. Images that do not reveal everything at a single glance, but invite you to linger.
That way of seeing is shaped by two worlds that converge in his work. As a doctor, Sjoerd learned to observe carefully and to have an eye for nuance and subtle shifts. As a photographer, he brings that same attention into nature. This is reflected in his images from the polar regions, but also in the stories and journeys behind them.
